The tools needed to teach a controls class usually cost thousands of dollars. The companies that supply these devices have proprietary hardware that can be used with their proprietary software, or with MATLAB and Simulink, to teach control systems. We propose that the same teaching tools can be built to interface with MATLAB and Simulink for a fraction of the cost and can be designed to be more effective in teaching than the already available instruments.
This project is aimed at designing very effective lab experiments for a control systems lab that are less expensive than what is already available.
